The Integrated Mangrove Ecology Lab is based at the Swire Institute of Marine Science of the University of Hong Kong. We are interested in various aspects of mangrove ecology and conservation and we think that Hong Kong and South East Asia are perfect spots for developing our research. We study the patterns of diversity of crabs and molluscs in South East Asian mangroves, the impact of anthropogenic stressors on such communities and their role in ecosystem functioning. We also focus on the evolutionary pathways of conquest of intertidal and terrestrial habitats by crabs, through a behavioural, eco-physiological and phylogenetic approach.
